Patrol 54 arrived at Algeria from Crystal Pool, on the 13th December at 14h40. Fellow team mate Andy, arrived earlier in the day in the overlander. After lunch, the team completed their compasses while the adult leaders sorted out the rations and made use of our garden shower. Their compass time trial was completed in 12 minutes and 34 seconds. This team of happy hikers started their trek to Sneeuberg at 17h00 on the 13th December 2008. Die SPAN was DUIDELIK ‘n bietjie AFRIKAANS—proudly announced by Monique and seconded by Terri. Both girls blonde the one a bleach blonde again announced by Monique. We will let you the reader guess who is who… The pictures that follow tell the team’s tale at the electronics base…

The happy hikers settling in and having lunch before starting the base activities. With tummies fueled to go, the adult leaders prepared for the remainder of the trek while the team enjoyed the base activities.
the team settled down to absorb Andrew’s introduction to making the electronic compass.
The next pictures represent the activities of the drill station which was run by drill master Dipesh. Preparation of the lids require drilling for the LEDs, Switch and Compass Sensor as well as application and marking of the labels.
With the guidance of the base staff, the team assembled and soldered the components like pros…getting their compasses to work at the first test...
A good team effort went into creating a team poster at the base...
Let the time trial begin... After receiving their prizes, the team posed for a picture with the sponsors representative, Andre van der Walt of GIBB, who is also our base leader.
